Google Creates New Tool - Fights Child Pornography
April 16, 2008
Dallas, Texas (WiredPRNews.com) — Although the internet has become quite big and very useful to mankind it has also become a means for heinous crimes. Through the world wide web, child pornography, and sexual abuse can is condoned and made much easier to do. However, Shumeet Baluja, a member of the Google team has just created a new search technology that will allow NCMEC (National Center for Missing and Exploited Children) and Google to filter out who is posting and searching for child pornography pictures and video on Google. This new tool was developed during the team’s free time in order to help the NCMEC track down criminals of this horrible crime much faster. Most of the images that show child pornography or sexual abuse have been linked back to the United States, which only shows that the rate of online crimes are increasing. Pornography has many harmful effects on society, it not only degrades human beings to mere sexual objects but also condones and normalizes sexual violence.
This new search technology will not only help the NCMEC but will also discourage potential criminals to realize that if they commit a child pornography or sexual abuse act online they will be tracked down and penalized for their crimes.
