Dallas Labor and Employment Lawyer Participates in Texas Labor and Employment Roundtable Discussion
Dallas, Texas (WiredPRNews.com) — Dallas employment lawyer Keith Clouse recently participated in a roundtable discussion sponsored by the Texas Lawyer: Is Texas On Its Way to Becoming a Unionized State? This discussion addressed a wide range of cutting-edge issues in Texas labor and employment law, including the possibility of unions attempting to organize workers in Texas and the far-reaching effects on employment law caused by technological advancements.
Clouse addressed changes in Texas state courts caused by recent judicial elections, how employers should best shield themselves from potential litigation with employees, how employers should best protect their confidential information, and issues a small or mid-size business should consider before granting equity interests to key employees.
Clouse noted that he regularly negotiates and drafts severance packages on behalf of high-level executives. Drawing on this experience, he also advises employers how to avoid costly employment litigation resulting from an employee’s separation from a company. He recommends that an employer planning to discharge an employee: (1) be straight with the employee; (2) keep talking to the employee; and (3) treat the employee with dignity. By following this simple advice, an employer can avoid most employment litigation stemming from an employee’s separation.
