Ford Motor Co. recalls 655,000 trucks for safety hazard

May 17, 2008

Louisville, Kentucky (WiredPRNews.com) — Ford’s trucks have always been known for large towing capacity, impressive road presence and overall safety. But according to a posting on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website on Wednesday, Ford Motor Company is issuing a recall of 655,000 Ford F-150 and Lincoln Mark LT pickup trucks for a serious danger hazard.

In a recall that will summon all “2005-2006 models of the trucks with 5.4 liter 3-valve engines”, the automaker has identified an issue that requires them to fix a hose that could affect the vehicles’ braking capabilities. Safety hazard, indeed.

According to the Associated Press report about the recall, “Ford spokesman Wes Sherwood says more than 600,000 of the trucks are in the United States and about 50,000 are in Canada. About 1,500 are in other countries around the world.” The report notes that there have been no major accidents tied to the defect, but that there have been 11 minor accidents and no issues related to the problem.

Ford and Lincoln pickup truck owners matching the recall criteria will be notified of the recall in late June and the projected start date of the recall repairs are expected to be begin in July. Ford Motor Company will fix the hose at no charge to owners.
