American Idol alum, Jennifer Hudson, to release solo album

May 20, 2008

Los Angeles, California (WiredPRNews.com) — The rumor is that the runners-up of the hit show, American Idol, are usually more popular and successful than the actual American Idol themselves. Need more proof? Take Chris Daughtry of season 5 who came in third but has had hit song after hit song on the Billboard Charts.

Finalist Kimberly Locke of season 2 went on to release two albums and competed in Celebrity Fit Club. This time around, season 3 finalist, Jennifer Hudson is making her mark on the music industry after setting the stage for her undoubted success in the movie “Dreamgirls.” After winning an Oscar for her performance as the sassy songbird, Effie, Hudson is making her debut on a self-titled solo album.

With the release of her first single, “Spotlight”, Hudson will be making the promotional rounds in September for her debut record from Arista Records. Her single is slated to hit radio waves on June 9 and will be available for download on June 10.

“I’m beyond ecstatic about my new album,” says Hudson. “I think people will be pleasantly surprised because it shows a side of my work that no one has heard before.” The public is increasingly interested in Hudson as she continues to plow through the entertainment industry with her large personality and even larger voice. With an upcoming role on the highly anticipated movie, Sex and the City, Hudson is taking the industry by storm.

Contributing to her debut album is rapper Ne-Yo, crooner Robin Thicke, Timbaland and ballad songwriter Diane Warren.
