Anaheim, California (WiredPRNews.com) — David Paterson, the new Governor of New York state, sent a memorandum to state agencies asking them to legally approve same sex marriages performed in all countries and states. Now, gay couples will be allowed to avail tax breaks and inherited properties in addition to thousands of other rights that the state gives only to the married couples.
Paterson has been a supporter of gay marriages for a long time and he feels that this memorandum will prevent discrimination and protect the state legally from litigation. Joseph Bruno, the Senate Majority Leader of the state and other religious groups blasted the order of the Governor and said that it has thwarted the authority of the legislature to alter the legal norms of marriage.
Bruno said that the Senate will review whether the Governor has moved beyond his power under the state law to send such a memorandum. The news has come from the Supreme Court of California that gay marriages will be legalized in the state beginning June 17.
Following the announcement, 35 years old Daniel Whitman, who is himself involved in a gay relationship for more than seven years, is rejoicing at the thought and is planning to propose his partner Bog Bartley for marriage in the end of June. Both of them are wearing wedding rings for 7 years from a ceremony of commitment.
