Paddy Power is set to pay out over 1 million Euros, which is the equivalence of $1.35 million in U.S. currency, to customers who placed bets on Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama’s November election win. One of the largest payouts will go to someone set to collect 150,000 Euros ($202,000) from a 100,000 Euro ($135,000) bet. A bet placed in 2005 for $50 will yield $3,714 in the payout as well.
Individuals are still able to participate in betting with the company on the upcoming election, with a 6 to 1 payout in the event of a McCain win, or a 1 to 1.11 on Obama. Other bets taken by Paddy Power pertaining to the U.S. political campaign include those on the odds of McCain choosing a different running mate, and decisions of red (Republican) and blue (Democratic) states.
