The woes of Wall Street have seemed to have little impact on many in the toy industry, and their high hopes for a successful holiday season.
A new Toys R Us/ Babies R Us store opening in Allen, Texas revealed the confidence of some toy makers that consumers will continue to place high importance on providing toys and other items for their children for the upcoming holidays, despite dealing with the current economic crisis. As reported by the Dallas Morning News, president of the Toy Industry Association, Carter Keithley speculates “the industry is somewhat recession-resistant.” Some hold the opinion that parents often make additional sacrifices during the holidays for toys and other gifts for the sake of their children feeling joy during the holiday season.
Some stores have also taken additional measures to ensure that their products are affordable for many who have had to restrict their spending. Stores like Wal-Mart have decreased the prices on some of their items and expanded their range of products for a more diversified price list. Many stores in the Dallas area are making preparations for anticipated customer holiday needs.
