Dallas Independent School District Fired Teachers

DISD reportedly had an $84 million dollar deficit in their budget which required them to make the drastic decision to dismiss approximately 550 teachers and staff.
As scheduled, hundreds of teachers and staff members within the Dallas Independent School District were fired on Thursday, many previously unaware of their individual fate. As reported by the Dallas Morning News, the decisions were met with intense emotion on behalf of teachers as well as students. A total of 375 were let go throughout the district campuses with teachers being told the news in various ways. Many expected teachers would be told at the end of the school day, but firings reportedly began relatively early in the day.
The firings were the result of the widely publicized financial troubles of the Dallas school district. DISD reportedly had an $84 million dollar deficit in their budget which required them to make the drastic decision to dismiss approximately 550 teachers and staff. Earlier in the week, more than 80 teachers voluntarily resigned or took an early retirement in an effort to reduce the number who would be dismissed without warning. Approximately 350 more teachers were reassigned to different campuses and positions. A sense of chaos has been stated to loom over the district as a result of the recent changes.
