GOP, Sarah Palin

After recent reports of having spent $150,000 on clothing, as paid for by the GOP, Sarah Palin has gone on record to describe herself as a frugal spender, as reported by the Associated Press.

Palin states that the designer duds, which reportedly came from high-end retailers Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, purchased for the campaign were not her property. In an interview with Fox News, the Republican vice presidential candidate stated that her usual spending habits for clothing were frugal purchases for her entire family, and emphasized that a frequent place of purchase is a consignment shop in her home of Alaska.

Palin and her running mate, Republican presidential candidate Senator John McCain have both been heavily scrutinized recently for issues associated with the running of their campaign. Many have viewed the expenditures for Palin’s clothing as contradictory of her efforts to associate herself with the average middle class woman living in the United States.

Palin has stated that the purchases will later be donated to charity or returned.
