Wired PR News.com – A twelve year-old boy in South Carolina was shot and killed while trick or treating Halloween night. As reported by the Associated Press, T.J. Darrishaw died, and his brother and father sustained injuries after convicted felon, Quentin Patrick, shot at them when they approached his home for trick or treating.
Darrishaw’s father, Freddie Grinnell Jr., stated on Monday that “The injury to my arm is not as bad as the injury to my heart. I’ve lost a piece of my heart forever.” He also commented that the young child had saved the lives of he and his younger children by unfortunately being ahead of them when walking to Patrick’s door.
Patrick was denied bond on Monday after being charged with murder and assault and battery with intent to kill. Patrick claimed that he mistook the family for robbers.
It is unknown whether prosecuters will seek the death penalty for the case, however, the family has expressed that they would prefer he serve the remainder of his life in jail. As quoted in the AP report, Darrishaw’s mother Daphne Grinnell said “He should have to live every day in jail and see it and feel it every day for the rest of his life,” Daphne Grinnell said.”
