The last surviving member of the 1960s band, the Jimi Hendrix Experience was found dead on Wednesday as reported by the Associated Press (AP).
Wired PR News.com — John “Mitch” Mitchell, 61, was the drummer of the popular group that included Hendrix, who died in 1970, and Noel Redding, the group’s bassist who died in 2003. The group came to be regarded for albums such as their “Are You Experienced?” debut and “Electric Ladyland.” The band received an induction in 1992 into the Rock Hall of Fame.
As stated in the AP report, Mitchell is presumed to have died of natural causes, and an autopsy is scheduled to be performed. He had recently finished the West Coast part of the Experience Hendrix Tour with a performance last Friday.
Of the performer, Janie Hendrix, sister to guitar legend Jimi Hendrix was quoted as stating “He was a wonderful man, a brilliant musician and a true friend… His role in shaping the sound of the Jimi Hendrix Experience cannot be underestimated.”
