The impending divorce of a couple has been blamed on a virtual affair within the popular site, Second Life. As reported by AFP, a woman decided to file for divorce after discovering her husband’s online affair with a virtual prostitute.
Twenty-eight year-old Amy Taylor and her 40 year-old husband David Pollard married in 2005 after meeting through Second Life in 2003. The couple decided to hold a ceremony online in addition to their actual marriage ceremony for their avatars which brought them together, Laura Skye and Dave Barmy.
Taylor reportedly took a break from the online scene and later found about her husband’s Internet affair with another avatar, which she described as “the ultimate betrayal.” Taylor was quoted in the report as stating to The Times “I just couldn’t believe what he’d done. It’s cheating as far as I’m concerned, but he didn’t see it as a problem and couldn’t see why I was so upset.” Taylor further stated that her husband insinuated that the fair was in part to due not receiving enough attention from is wife. Pollard is now reportedly engaged to the woman behind his avatar affair, and Taylor has moved on as well with someone she met through a different online game, “World of Warcraft.”
