Man Accused of Drunk Driving Runs Over Self
A man in Northern New Mexico landed in jail after becoming involved in a police chase that ended after he ran over himself, as reported by the Associated Press (AP).
The suspect, Roy Travis Aguilar, sustained minor injuries in the accident, and was provided medical attention at a hospital in Santa Fe before being taken to jail.
Aguilar was accused of driving while intoxicated and booked on those and other charges, including fleeing a police officer, at the Sandoval County detention center. He also had outstanding warrants for unrelated traffic violations.
A hot line tip led police to pursue Aguilar who was seen by authorities driving erratically. After initially refusing to stop for the police, the suspect ran through a ditch and fence, then attempted to put his vehicle into park position, but reversed it instead, falling out and running over his legs.
Aguilar was in police custody at the time of the report.
