Other members announced for the Obama Administration national security team include James Jones as National Security Adviser, Eric Holder as Attorney General, Janet Napolitano as Secretary of Homeland Security, Susan Rice as United Nations Ambassador, and Bush Administration veteran Robert Gates, who will continue to serve as Secretary of Defense. As reported by the Associated Press, Gates proclaimed that he was “honored to serve President-elect Obama” and that he was “mindful that we are engaged in two wars and face other serious challenges at home and around the world.”

In regards to his choice of Clinton, who was the democratic rival of Obama in the primary, the President Elect stated “I believe that there is no more effective advocate than Hillary Clinton for that well-rounded view of how we advance American interests.” Clinton’s husband, former president Bill Clinton released a statement during the news conference commenting “She [Hilary] is the right person for the job of helping to restore America’s image abroad, end the war in Iraq, advance peace and increase our security, by building a future for our children with more partners and fewer adversaries, one of shared responsibilities and opportunities.”
