Rates of New Cancer Cases Shown to Have Decreased in the U.S.

Statistics show that the incidence of new cancer cases in the United States has decreased. WiredPRNews.com – The report on new cases diagnosed in America is also stated to show that the average number of deaths from various cancers combined is lower as well.
As quoted in the TIME report of Dr. Therese Bevers of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, “It’s a validation of the efforts we are making in the fight against cancer.” The decreases have been attributed to medical efforts that have yielded a higher number of people getting screened for cancers as well as more advanced treatments becoming available. However, for types of cancers for which there is not yet reliable screening methods, rates of mortality have risen in some groups.
More information about the results of the study is available in the Annual Report to the Nation on the Status of Cancer compiled by the American Cancer Society, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Cancer Institute.
