Abortion Clinic Faces Lawsuit Over Assisting 16 Year-Old
Parents of a 16 year-old have recently filed a lawsuit against an abortion clinic in Georgia for giving the teenager an abortion without their consent.
WiredPRNews.com As reported by Reuters, the lawsuit alleges the clinic violated state laws requiring notification of parents for performing such an operation.
The Northside Women’s Clinic was accused of displaying misleading information on their website regarding the Woman’s Right to Know Act which led to Genevieve and Victor Patterson’s daughter, Renee secretly seeking an abortion without their consent. The clinic allowed a note from Renee’s then boyfriend’s mother to suffice as adequate parental consent. The lawsuit states that the law stipulates that a parent is required to accompany patients under the age of 18, as well as provide 24 hours notice of an abortion to be performed in those cases.
An amount for damages sought by the parents in the lawsuit has not been specified.
