Two Teenage Nursing Home Aides Accused of Cruelty to Patients

Wired PR News.com – Two teenagers have been charged in the abuse cases of patients at a Minnesota nursing home. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Brianna Broitzman, 19, and Ashton Larson, 18, were stated in a complaint filed on Monday to have taunted, spit on, and molested Alzheimer’s patients at the Good Samaritan Society nursing home in Albert Lea, Minnesota.
As noted in the AP report, the father of 18 year-old Larson released a statement to the NBC Today show on Thursday citing “Not all of the charges are as they appear. Much of this has been distorted by the news media… My daughter was doing nothing more than performing the duties of her job.”
Other teens who were employed at the nursing home at the time of the incidents have been charged in connection to the abuse for failure to report it. More were reportedly involved in the actual abuse of residents, however only Larson and Broitzman show record of being criminally charged with the abuse allegations.
The state’s Health Department has reported that 15 patients with dementia disorders were abused at Good Samaritan Society from the beginning of January to the start of May.
