DFW Area Woman Loses Case Against Tyler Perry

Wired PR News.com – A woman who recently accused critically acclaimed writer/actor Tyler Perry of copyright infringement has lost her case. As reported by the Star-Telegram, Donna West sued Perry in a federal suit alleging he stole material from her script for Fantasy of a Black Woman that was used for his hit movie and play, Diary of a Mad Black Woman.
As quoted of attorney Veronica Lewis, who commented on the case via an email to the Associated Press, “We are very pleased that the jurors understood that Tyler Perry is an incredibly talented person who has no need to copy the work of others.”
West was asking for damages that included profits from Perry’s film. In addition to Perry, his company and Lions Gate Entertainment, Inc. were also sued by West in the lawsuit brought in 2007.
Jurors reached a verdict in favor of Perry sometime Tuesday afternoon.
