Illinois Governor Clings to Position Despite Call for His Resignation

Wired PR News.com – Disgraced Illinois Governor, Rod Blagojevich, held steadfast to his position on remaining in power Wednesday, despite the recent charges against him. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the governor ignored the request from President Elect Barack Obama for him to resign.
Senators have also proclaimed that he is no longer in a position to make a proper decision on who should take over Obama’s open seat. As quoted in the AP report of Majority Leader Harry Reid and Illinois Senator Richard Durbin if Blagojevich were to “ignore the request of the Senate Democratic Caucus and make an appointment we would be forced to exercise our Constitutional authority … to determine whether such a person should be seated.” As noted in the report, the Senate may refuse the swearing in of a member under the constitution.
Blagojevich, who maintains his innocence, may face impeachment if he continues to refuse to resign.
