Wired PR News.com – Actor Tom Cruise has been granted a restraining order against a man who showed up at his home uninvited on numerous occasions. As reported by E! Online, military veteran Edward Van Tassel was ordered this week to not attempt to have any further contact with Cruise, and has been barred from getting near the star’s estate in Beverly Hills.
The 28 year-old previously tried hand delivering a letter to Cruise at his home multiple times. He allegedly showed up at the actor’s home twice on December 3, and again four days later. His letter reportedly contained information regarding how Cruise’s movies were helpful to him for getting through his military tour of duty. Van Tassel was previously sent to a V.A. hospital in LA for a prior incident. The judge in the case was quoted as stating “I did not envision a situation that would enable him to come and go as he pleased… The V.A. let him down, the family let him down and we let him down, Well, I did.”
As noted in the E! report, Van Tassel may be charged with conspiracy to exhibit a firearm in the presence of an officer, illegal possession of a martial arts weapon, obstructing police, and other crimes. He is currently free on bail.
