Wired PR News.com – With consumer spending at a reported all time low for the holiday season, one market has seemed to weather the economic storm pretty well. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), November sales numbers for video games, software, and consoles sold in the U.S. reached approximately $3 billion, almost 10 percent higher than last year. The data was revealed by NPD Group market researchers, who anticipate total video game sales for the year to reach approximately $22 billion in the U.S.
Nintendo was regarded as having the most success for the month of November, selling an estimated 2 million of their widely popular Wiis, leaving some retailers out of stock of the game consoles. Microsoft fared well with their X-Box system as well selling approximately 836,000.
Reasons provided for the high sales numbers include widespread availability of video games and their reputation for being a relatively inexpensive means of at home entertainment.
