Hollywood private investigator sentenced to 15 years for wiretapping stars.
Wired PR News.com – A judge has sentenced Hollywood private investigator Anthony Pellicano to 15 years incarceration for his role in a wiretapping scheme that involved spying on celebrities. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Pellicano as well as two other defendants were also ordered to hand over $2 million. Pellicano was reportedly non-emotional while being handed down the sentence.
As noted by the AP, Pellicano was previously convicted of a total of 78 charges that ranged from wiretapping to fraud. He had illegally spied on stars such as Sylvester Stallone, and bribed some members of law enforcement to check names of famous individuals in police databases for information.
Attorneys for Pellicano have expressed plans to appeal the sentence citing retaliation for his not cooperating with an investigation. The PI had been under investigation for three years. He currently has civil lawsuits pending against him stemming from his alleged practices.
