Oprah Winfrey Recognized by PETA
Oprah Winfrey has received a top honor from animal rights organization, PETA.
Wired PR News.com – Oprah Winfrey has been named “Person of the Year” by well known animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the queen of daytime talk was described by President of the group, Ingrid E. Newkirk, as someone who has contributed her “powerful voice to defend those without one.”
Winfrey will receive a plaque as well as a letter of appreciation for the honor. Prior recipients of the award include United States Senator Robert Byrd, and other publicly recognized individuals. PETA is based in Norfolk, Virginia.
Winfrey has been described by many as the most powerful woman in the world, with a cult like following for her top rated television program and charity works. The talk show host has reportedly not yet released a comment regarding her receipt of the award.
