New research shows that peppermint may be powerful in combating digestive issues.
Wired PR News.com – Those with an abundance of candy canes left over from the holidays may be sitting on a goldmine for maintaining good digestive health. As reported by Discovery News, new research has shown that peppermint, a key ingredient used to make traditional candy canes, has the potential to fight germs and treat ailments associated with the digestive system. It may even be used to prevent bacteria growth on food.
As noted in the report, some experts recommend including a tablespoon of fresh peppermint and other green herbs in one’s diet. Peppermint is proposed to be a viable means of attacking irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), which as much as 20 percent of the population has purportedly suffered from.
More information about the findings on peppermint, and the potential use of peppermint and other essential oil vapors to fight bacteria, is expected to be published in the Food Control journal.
