The families of babies in China who became ill as a result of milk contamination will reportedly receive compensation for their injuries.

Wired PR News.com – The Chinese dairies said to be liable for the illnesses of 300,000 babies, and the deaths of a reported six due to milk contamination will reportedly pay compensation to the victims. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the companies are expected to give the families approximately 1.1 billion yuan, which amounts to 160 million in US currency, combined for damages.

As outlined by the AP, reports from the China Daily newspaper have said that 22 companies deemed responsible for the injuries will make a payment of 900 million yuan in cash to victims and set the remainder aside for those with continual resulting health problems. The total amount granted for each family may range from 2,000 yuan ($290) to 200,000 yuan ($30,000) depending on the severity of injuries sustained.

Trials of 15 individuals accused of endangering public safety in connection to the production, marketing, and sale of melamine had begun prior to the release of details about the plans for compensation.
