Dallas News - Dallas Police Officer Killed Tuesday Evening

Officer Norman Smith of the Dallas Police Department was fatally shot while serving a warrant.
Wired PR News.com – A Dallas police officer has been shot and killed in the line of duty. As reported by CBS 11 News, Officer Norman Smith was fatally wounded on Tuesday after he tried to serve a felony warrant in a Dallas apartment complex shortly after 6:00 p.m.
Lt. Andy Harvey of the Dallas Police Department is quoted as stating in a press conference, “They knocked on the door and they were met on with gunfire.” Three males have reportedly been taken into custody for questioning regarding the shooting as police continue their investigation.
Officer Smith was married to fellow police officer Lt. Regina Smith with whom he has two children. As noted by the CBS 11 report, he was profiled in 2006 for his police work in The Dallas Observer. The article is quoted as including the statement, “Officer Norm Smith of the Dallas police gang unit was on the street so much, he was given a nickname by the gang members–Soprano. While other officers were sometimes taunted, Smith was respected on the street.”
