Roland Burris is refused Obama Senate seat on Tuesday for allegedly not having the right credentials.
Wired PR News.com – As many anticipated, Senate Democrats refused to seat Illinois Governor, Rod Blagojevich’s Obama seat pick on Tuesday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Roland Burris was turned away after attempting to take the Senate seat, as Majority Leader Harry Reid exclaimed, “Mr. Burris is not in possession of the necessary credentials from the state of Illinois.”
As noted by the AP, Burris stated that he had been previously informed by Senate Secretary Nancy Erickson of issues with his credentials, which reportedly lacked a necessary signature and seal. Burris spoke to news reporters while standing outside the Capitol about the occurrence and the possibility of his filing a lawsuit to obtain the seat.
Pending charges against Governor Blagojevich for attempting to sell the open seat of President Elect Barack Obama are at the center of the controversy surrounding Burris being considered a viable candidate for the Senate.
