Singer Boy George set to spend 15 months behind bars.
Wired PR News.com — George O ‘Dowd, who is better know as Boy George, was sentenced to 15 months in jail by British Judge David Radford. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), O’Dowd was arrested for falsely imprisoning a male escort.
Adun Carlsen said O’Dowd handcuffed him to a hook on a wall at his East London apartment and left him there for an hour. He also stated that O’Dowd swung at him with a metal chain as he ran from the apartment after posing naked for a photo shoot. According to O’Dowd, he handcuffed Carlsen while trying to figure out if someone had tampered with his computer. As quoted by the AP, O’Dowd’s attorney stated that both Carlsen and O’Dowd behaved like “drug crazed idiots.”
Boy George, lead singer of the music group Culture Club, became famous in the 1980’s for hits such as “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me” and “Karma Chameleon.” He reportedly has a long history of drug abuse problems. In 2006, O’Dowd was arrested and convicted of filing a false police report. He was stated to have called police and reported a burglary. When police arrived, they found cocaine. For that incident, he was sentenced to community service with New York City’s Department of Sanitation. Attorney Adrian Waterman that O’Dowd is quoted as describing O’Dowd as a kind man and was not himself due to drug use when the latest incident occurred.
