The Senate confirmed Timothy Geithner for Obama’s Treasury Secretary on Monday.
Wired PR News.com – Timothy Geithner, the 9th President of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, has been confirmed by the Senate as Treasury Secretary for President Barack Obama. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the Senate voted 60-34 on Monday, and settled the issue with the reportedly controversial nomination.
As noted in the AP report, some members of the Senate took issue with Geithner’s not having paid all of his taxes prior to becoming considered for an Obama administration cabinet post. However, Geithner attributed the issue to an unintended error, and subsequently cleared the $42,702 bill owed. According to the AP report, supporters of the Treasury Secretary have expressed views that prolonging finding someone to head the Treasury Department, with a search for someone else would not be beneficial for the country.
Geithner’s role will be central to assisting with getting America past the current financial crisis.
