Obesity Contagious?
A new study claims obesity can be transferred from person to person like the common cold.
Wired PR News.com – A new study proposes that individuals can catch obesity in the same manner one may catch the common cold. As reported by Live Science, the research links an adenovirus called AD-36 to obesity in some adults.
As noted in the Live Science report, information about the study will reportedly be presented in a television special aired on BBC, however, some scientists give little weight to the hype surrounding the claims. Some have expressed worries that suggestions made that obesity is something that is contagious may contribute to confusion about what the most significant factor of obesity really is: overeating.
As presented in the report, according to the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a third of adults in the United States are obese. Many researchers continue to debate whether factors other than environmental significantly contribute to serious weight issues in adults and children.
