Washington lawmakers may expand domestic partnership law to give more rights to same sex couples

Washington state lawmakers may expand law to include more provisions for same-sex couples.

WiredPRNews.com – Washington State may see changes in their domestic partnership laws including those which extend more rights to same-sex couples. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the state’s lawmakers announced the possible expansion of Washington’s domestic partnership law that would afford gay couples the same benefits prescribed to heterosexual married couples.

Democratic Senator Ed Murray is quoted in the AP report as stating of the proposal, “I would say the most remarkable thing about this bill is that it is unremarkable… Instead of the cultural wars that we have seen year after year, we see a Legislature that is mostly on board in moving forward on protecting all of Washington’s families.”

As noted by the AP, although it has passed in the House, the Senate has disapproved of the measure for the last two years. Many anticipate the bill fairing better with this year’s vote.
