A decades old dispute over the Black Sea is settled by the International Court of Justice.
WiredPRNews.com – A disagreement over the Black Sea has been settled by a World Court. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), a dispute that has lasted 40 years between Romania and Ukraine was settled Tuesday as the International Court of Justice decided on a border to separate which areas of the Black Sea would belong to the two.
As noted in the report, both the Ukraine and Romania agreed on the Court’s decision, however it was left uncertain how access to the area’s natural gas and oil would be divided.
The decision of the 15 court justices is binding, and as noted in the AP report, is deemed by some the possible beginning of a new period of cooperation between the two countries. Deputy Foreign Minister Oleksandr Kupchyshyn of Ukraine is quoted as stating, “We are satisfied that we have become party to this civilized solution.”
