Secretary of Health nominee Tom Daschle resigns from the post amidst tax controversy.

Wired PR News.com – President Obama reacted to the resignation of his choice for Health and Human Services Secretary on Tuesday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Obama stated in an interview, “I take responsibility for this mistake.”

As noted by the AP, Obama conducted several interviews throughout the day regarding Daschle’s resignation in which he discussed failed nominees. The President is quoted to have expressed in another interview frustration about what he described as mistakenly sending a message that separate rules apply for prominent individuals and ordinary people in his handling of the circumstances surrounding Daschle’s nomination after the tax controversy began.

Tom Daschle made the decision to withdraw his nomination after making a plea to the Senate to be approved for Obama’s Cabinet post, after failing to pay more than $120,000 in taxes owed.

Another Obama pick, Nancy Killefer, who was chosen by the President to be Chief Performance Officer resigned as well due to tax issues. Robert Gibbs, Press Secretary for the White House is quoted in the AP report as stating of the two resignations, “They both recognized that you can’t set an example of responsibility but accept a different standard of who serves.”
