DNA Leads to Arrest in 1976 Case
A DNA match has led to an arrest in the death of teenager over 30 years ago.
Wired PR News.com – Detectives have arrested a man in the 1976 killing of a 19 year old woman. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), DNA evidence has linked Thomas Niesen to the stabbing death of Kathleen Leichtman, which occurred in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin over 30 years ago.
DNA evidence taken from the investigation of Leichtman’s death was provided to the state crime lab more than seven years ago, but remained unmatched until last October after Niesen provided his DNA sample after being convicted of felony child abuse. Niesen, arrested last week, is set to be formally charged this week for the crime.
The family of Leichtman is quoted in the AP report as stating they “would like to express their special appreciation and gratitude to everyone working on this case and to their dedication.”
