Congress passes stimulus producing a huge victory for the president.
Wired PR News – Congress has passed an economic stimulus bill for the sum of $787 billion. As reported by Associated Press (AP), President Barack Obama saw his first huge victory in Congress, as lawmakers voted 60-38 for its passing, and what is deemed a major step for fixing the economic crisis.
Congressional Democrats and Republicans were stated to hold differing opinions about the effectiveness of the measure. Senator Max Baucus is quoted as stating, “It will shore up our schools and roads and bridges, and infuse cash into new sectors like green energy and technology that will sustain our economy for the long term.”
Holding an opposing view, Republican Senator Mitch McConnell is quoted by the AP as stating, “A stimulus bill that was supposed to be timely, targeted and temporary is none of the above… And this means Congress is about to approve a stimulus that’s unlikely to have much stimulative effect.”
