Numerous new blogs and websites sprout up about potential winners of this year’s Oscars.
Wired PR News.com – The Internet is all abuzz about who is slated to win this year’s set of Oscars. As reported by AFP, numerous blogs and websites have been formed that are dedicated to guessing who will be victorious in the coveted Academy Award competition.
Studios have reportedly begun using these kinds of Oscar driven websites for advertising, as well as publicists who seek information. Tom O’Neil, a journalist who created one of the earliest websites of this genre, is quoted as stating, “I’d written a book in the 1990s that analyzed the top 13 awards and mapped them out like a derby… So when the Internet came along I decided to launch goldderby.com as a way of encouraging journalists to join me.”
O’Neil is further quoted as stating of the online Oscar buzz boom, “The fan blogs exploded… Fans started doing what the journalists weren’t doing, which was covering this as a real race.”
Sasha Stone, who also runs an Oscar focused website, OscarWatch.com, is quoted as stating, “Nobody saw the blog thing coming. Everybody thought the model would be journalists writing stories, newspapers online… When that happened I changed my site. People love to post and engage in discussions, which is what they can’t do in traditional press so much.”
The Academy Awards are set to be held this Sunday.
