Microsoft allows laid off workers to keep severance overpay

Microsoft changes mind about taking back extra severance pay to laid off employees.

WiredPRNews.com – Microsoft has agreed to allow laid off workers who’ve received severance overpay due to an administrative mistake to keep the additional money. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the company announced that the 25 employees who received the extra payouts would not have to repay the money as previously requested.

Microsoft mailed letters to the employees seeking to recover an estimated $4,000 to $5,000 per check overpaid to former workers. However, as noted in the AP report, after the release of one of the letters online, executives began calling most of the 25 laid off workers to tell them they would be able to keep the additional funds after all.

Microsoft also reportedly underpaid 20 of the 1,400 workers laid off in January, which the company subsequently caught and corrected, mailing out additional checks to make up for the difference, along with letters to explain the issue.
