Drugmaker AstraZeneca Said to Have Known About Seroquel Risks
AstraZeneca was reportedly aware of risks associated with Seroquel ten years ago.
Wired PR News.com – AstraZeneca reportedly knew of dangerous health risks associated with their psychiatric drug Seroquel 10 years ago, but did not take steps to warn users. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the drugmaker was aware years ago that the medication caused diabetes as well as significant weight gain, as shown by internal documents.
Ed Blizzard, one of the attorneys representing thousands in a lawsuit against AstraZeneca, is quoted in the report as stating of the drug manufacturer, “They not only failed to warn about the risk of diabetes, but they marketed it as not having that risk.”
Seroquel is used in the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. As noted by the AP, AstraZeneca stated on the day of the release of the internal documents pertaining to Seroquel, that the FDA has now requested more information on another version of the drug.
