Barbara Bush Resting After Undergoing Heart Surgery

The former First Lady underwent open heart surgery on Wednesday.
Wired PR News.com – Former First Lady Barbara Bush is reportedly resting after undergoing open heart surgery on Wednesday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Bush, 83, underwent the 2 ½ hour surgery at The Methodist Hospital to replace her aortic valve. The procedure was said to have gone well.
Dr. Gerald Lawrie, a surgeon with the Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center, who performed the procedure, is quoted as stating of Bush’s condition, “I expect her to recover fully and soon resume her normal activities.” She is reportedly expected to be able to leave the hospital in 7 to 10 days.
Former President George H.W. Bush is quoted in the AP report as remarking about his wife’s surgery, “I am very impressed with and grateful to the wonderful team of doctors and nurses at The Methodist Hospital who have helped Barbara… We have every confidence she is in the best hands.”
