Many Jobs Still Open Despite Recession
An estimated 2 million jobs remain open despite recession.
Wired PR News.com – Millions of job losses have been reported over the last year, however, several companies are still looking to fill positions. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), government data has revealed that nearly 2 million openings are available across different industries.
Despite the numerous open positions, including those for highly trained professionals, competition for them might be tough with an estimated five people per opening competing. The increase in applicants has provided companies with a more qualified and experienced pool of people to choose from. Terry Schmidt, CFO of California based Guild Mortgage Company is quoted in the AP report as stating, “We’ve been busy…We’re finding that the talent pool — the level of talent and experience — is much better than we’ve ever had.”
Industries with jobs still in demand include nursing, pharmaceutical, and engineering.
