Daily Shampooing May Not Be Beneficial
Some dermatologists state that shampooing the hair daily may be damaging.
Wired PR News – Experts are saying that washing one’s hair everyday may strip it of essential oils, and lead to damage. As reported by NPR.org, statistics suggest that Americans wash their hair on average 4.59 times during the week, which is twice as much as people in Italy and Spain.
The frequent hair wash trend is said to have dated back to 1908, when marketing campaigns were aimed at increasing shampoo use.
Columbia University dermatologist Michelle Hanjani, is quoted in the report as stating, “If you wash your hair every day, you’re removing the sebum… Then the oil glands compensate by producing more oil.” Hanjani is said to recommend that individuals do so no more than two to three times per week. Some people, depending on their hair type, are said to be able to go even longer periods between hair washes.
