Skier Killed While Filming Movie
Professional skier Shane McConkey died after performing a jump during the filming of a movie.
Wired PR News – Shane McConkey, an acclaimed professional skier, was killed this week after performing a jump during the making of a film. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), McConkey sustained fatal injuries after a mal-function occurred while he was jumping off of a cliff using a parachute. The extreme skier was filming a movie in Italy.
A spokesperson for McConkey’s sponsor Red Bull, Patrice Radden, is quoted as stating of the professional skier, “Shane loved life and innovated both sport worlds he touched, skiing and B.A.S.E. Jumping… Unfortunately, the sport he pioneered also carries inherent risks.”
As noted by the AP, McConkey was the founder of the International Free Skiing Association, and has won several awards throughout his career. He was married to Sherry McConkey with whom he has a three year-old daughter.
