Wired PR News reports controversial Dallas police officer resigns

The police offer involved in the controversial traffic stop of an NFL player has resigned from his position.

Wired PR News – The Dallas police officer who delayed the family of an NFL player in their attempt to visit a dying relative in a hospital has resigned from his post. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the resignation of Officer Robert Powell was announced Wednesday following public outrage over Powell’s actions towards Houston Texans player Ryan Moats, while he, along with his wife, was attempting to enter a Plano hospital to visit his dying mother in law, who passed away from breast cancer shortly after the incident.

Powell is quoted in the AP report as releasing the statement regarding his resignation, “I made this decision in the hope that my resignation will allow the Dallas Police Department, my fellow officers and the citizens of Dallas to better reflect on this experience, learn from the mistakes made, and move forward… I still hope to speak with the Moats family to personally express my deep regret, sympathy, and to apologize for my poor judgment and unprofessional conduct.”
