New York Gunman Murder Suicide
A gunman opened fire at a community center Friday.
Wired PR News – A gunman in upstate New York killed 13 people at a community center on Friday before ending his own life. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the killer opened fire at the American Civic Association while a group of immigrants were taking a citizenship class, which resulted in 13 people in the class being fatally wounded.
Police Chief Joseph Zikuski is quoted in the report as stating of the victims, “The people were trying to better themselves, trying to become citizens.” As noted by the AP, the gunman is believed to be an immigrant from Vietnam. His motive for the killings is said to be unknown.
New York Governor David Paterson is quoted by the AP as stating that the Binghamton massacre is possibly “the worst tragedy and senseless crime in the history of this city.” The governor is further quoted as stating, “When are we going to be able to curb the kind of violence that is so fraught and so rapid that we can’t even keep track of the incidents.”
