The President proclaims that there is no war between the U.S. and Islam.

As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Obama stated during his first presidential visit to a nation that is predominately Islamic, “Our partnership with the Muslim world is critical, not just in rolling back the violent ideologies that people of all faiths reject but also to strengthen opportunity for all its people.”
As noted in the report, the president also sought to better ties with Turkey, which had been damaged due to the 2003 Iraq invasion, which was opposed by Turkey. Obama is also quoted in the report as stating, “Turkey’s greatness lies in your ability to be at the center of things. This is not where East and West divide — this is where they come together.” The President further remarked in regards to tensions over Iraq, “I know that strain is shared in many places where the Muslim faith is practiced. So let me say this as clearly as I can: The United States is not and will never be at war with Islam.”
