Court Declares Franken the Winner in Senate Race
A Minnesota court has declared that Democratic candidate for Senator, Al Franken has garnered more votes than his opponent.
Wired PR News – A court in Minnesota has declared Democratic candidate for the state’s Senate seat to have beat out his Republican opponent Norm Coleman by 312 votes. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the court made their decision on Monday following an extensive trial that has lasted seven weeks, and a recount held throughout the state.
As noted by the AP, the ruling Monday may not put an end to the controversy surrounding the seating of the next Minnesota senator. Coleman has expressed intentions on appealing the ruling to the Supreme Court of Minnesota, which he must do within 10 days. If carried through, there may be several more weeks of delay in Franken being officially seated on the Senate.
