A lack of team spirit on the job is said to possibly contribute to depression in some employees.
Wired PR News – Team spirit may account for more than just increased productivity on the job. As reported by Reuters, a new study suggests that poor team spirit at work may be a contributing factor for depression.
Dr. Marjo Sinokki with the Turku based Finnish Institute of Occupational Health, who served as lead author of the study, is quoted in the Reuters report as stating, “As depressive disorders are a major cause of work disability and account for a considerable proportion of the disease burden, more attention should be paid to psychosocial factors at work.”
The findings of the research study concluded that individuals who worked in environments or job climates deemed quarrelsome had over a 60 percent higher chance of being depressed than other workers. However, further research is needed to help determine the nature of this relationship.
The study is published in the Occupational and Environmental Medicine journal.
