The “Dancing with the Stars” winner was found not guilty of tax evasion charges.
Wired PR News – Helio Castroneves was acquitted Friday in a case stemming from allegations that he and others worked together to prevent paying $2.3 million in income tax. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Castroneves was charged with six counts of tax evasion on which he was acquitted, and one count of conspiracy, on which the jury was hung. Helio’s sister Katiucia Castroneves, also charged on the same counts, received the same outcome. Castroneves’ attorney was charged with tax evasion and conspiracy as well, but was acquitted on all counts.
Castroneves, a Brazilian racecar driver, is quoted as stating of the outcome, “I just want to thank God, and my fans, and all of the people who prayed for me… It has been a very difficult place to be in.”
