Stephen Hawking Said to be Very Ill
The mathematician was reportedly taken to the hospital on Monday.
Wired PR News – British theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking was reportedly rushed to the hospital on Monday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the famed 67 year-old mathematician is said to be seriously ill.
Gregory Hayman, head of communications for Cambridge University, is quoted in the report as stating early Monday, “Professor Hawking is very ill… He is undergoing tests. He has been unwell for a couple of weeks.” Hayman is further quoted as providing the update on Hawkings state that he was “now comfortable but will be kept in hospital overnight.”
Hawking is most well known for his contributions in the field of quantum gravity, particularly in regards to works on black holes. He was diagnosed with the degenerative disorder ALS, which is also referred to as Lou Gehrigs disease, at the age of 21.
