As reported by Reuters, experts have stated that there are growing fears of the recession leading to an increase in job based violent behavior. Kenneth Springer with Corporate Resolutions Inc., is quoted as stating of the matters, “Tough times will cause people to do crazy things… People are taking more precautions.”
As noted in the report, included in the category of workplace violence are incidents ranging from harassment to murder. Job losses and financial worries are said to be major factors that influence this type of disturbing behavior. Security expert and “Violence Assessment and Intervention: the Practitioner’s Handbook” author is quoted by Reuters as stating, “People are flat out concerned… People that are staying in companies where there has been significant downsizing and there’s also been major dislocation … are worried at every level… Even in down economic times, I’m doing more training now than I’ve done in years.”
